New Health Care Contraceptive Policy Announced; AMU's Towey "Disappointed"

Ave Maria University President Jim Towey said Friday that he was "disappointed" with the announcement earlier in the day by the federal government which the Obama administration called a "compromise" on the issue of mandating organizations to provide health care coverage for birth control services. "The Obama administration blew it again," Mr. Towey saId, with new regulations that "do not appear to settle anything."

Epic Reading of the Iliad in 24-Hour "Homerathon" at AMU Feb. 8-9

Students and faculty at Ave Maria University will read the entire Iliad by Homer over 24 hours Feb. 8-9. The reading, which is open to the public, will use a modern translation for the 21st century by classics scholar Stanley Lombardo, who will read the final book himself.  Students at the Donahue Academy in Ave Maria prayed a "living rosary," in which each student was a bead, Wednesday as part of the school's events marking Catholic Schools Week.

Chicago Fire Win Exhibition Match Against FGCU

 The Major League Soccer Chicago Fire won their first exhibition match this year, beating Florida Gulf Coast University 2-0 Sunday at North Park in Ave Maria.
