The announcement of Pope Benedict XVI's resignation was met with an outpouring of prayers for the pontiff in Ave Maria, a town with a uniquely Catholic character. "Many of us are still reeling from the news," Ave Maria University director of campus ministry Fr. Robert McTeigue said.

 More than 60 Ave Maria University students and faculty staged a 24-hour "Homerathon" reading of an updated translation of the entire Iliad from Friday to Saturday evening. A stirring reading by Prof. Stanley Lombardo, whose version was used, concluded the event.
