The Seminole Tribe is hoping to build a 110-room Hard Rock Hotel behind the Immokalee Casino this year, according to a report in the Naples Daily News, which bases the story on plans discusssed with the Immokalee Water and Sewer District. A spokesman for the tribe had no commnent, but the report says the casino would also be expanded, with a hoped-for completion date by the end of 2014.  The Ave Maria University rugby team, The Papists, captured the Florida state championship on the weekend and will play in the U.S. south regional championships March 15-16 in Pensacola, FL. The rugby team, a club sport at AMU, was undefeated this year and has lost only once in the last two seasons.

 The ballroom at Ave Maria University seemed to be transported to an earlier time Saturday night as almost 100 people stepped lightly in dances from a bygone era at the school's annual 19th-century ball. This year's dance had a mysterious element, as dancers were masked for the early dances, in the tradition of a masquerade ball.

 Ave Maria University's annual scholarship dinner Thursday night have more than 400 people a closer look at plans for a new performing arts center, and raised about a half-million dollars for student scholarships.  An aggressive Sarasota Christian School team beat the Donahue Academy Shamrocks 59-20 in Sarasota in the semi-finals of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 2A regional playoffs. "I am very proud of what they accomplished in their first year of FHSAA basketball," said Head Coach Tim Donohue.

 A first-class relic of St. Jude -- part of the apostle's forearm -- came to Ave Maria for two days Tuesday, brought by Fr. Michail Ford, director of the Shrine of St. Jude in Chicago (above, with students from the Donahue Academy). The relic is available for veneration at the noon and 5 p.m. Masses Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 11-12.
