Donahue Academy Will Host Football Playoff Game Nov. 11

A great season just got even better for the Donahue Academy sixman football team.

The Shamrocks got news recently that their record for the year improved from an impressive 7-1 to 8-0 because the only team to beat them, Cape Coral Christian School, had to forfeit all its victories because of the use of ineligible players.

Donahue, in its third season of sixman football, qualified for the playoffs by beating previously unbeaten Oasis Christian Oct. 21. Now, with the Shamrocks' only loss of the season nullified, the team is assured of playing it's first-ever playoff game at home at North Park in Ave Maria Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., regardless of how they do in their last game of the regular season against Westwood Christian of Miami. The playoff game will be against the winner of a game this weekend between two Tampa-area teams -- Elfers Christian School and Solid Rock -- in region 2 of the Florida Christian Association of Private and Parochial Schools (FCAPPS).

If Donahue wins its first playoff contest, it will play a second playoff game the following weekend, also at home.

Coach Rich Scanlon said, "Although this is not the way I wanted to be the Number-One seed, it's a great opportunity for our seniors." He also said he'll be able to start the 2nd-team offense for some series against Westood, "which will give them some playing time -- an additional benefit."
