Jim Towey took over the reins of Ave Maria University from Tom Monaghan and Nick Healy without much fanfare in July. The pomp will take place Friday, when, in the presence of Bishop Frank Dewane and Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski, Mr. Towey will be formally installed as the university's second president.

wenskiThe event begins at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, with a Mass and inaugural liturgy at which both bishops will participate, with Archbishop Wenski (right) expected to deliver the homily. The Mass will be followed by an Investiture Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. at which the university seal will be officially presented to Mr. Towey by Michael T.O. Timmis, chairman of the board of trustees, and Tom Monaghan, the university's founder and chancellor.

Both of the inaugural events take place in the Ave Maria Oratory, and are open to the public.

Mr. Towey has served as the president of St. Vincent College in Pennsylvania and was the director of faith-based and community initiatives under President George W. Bush. He also founded the non-profit organization Aging with Dignity and was, for more than a decade, a legal counsel to the late Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

"I am honored and humbled to serve as president," Mr. Towey said "Ave Maria University is a campus characterized by excellence, scholarship, and deeply rooted in the Catholic faith", noted Towey.
