The Ave Maria Gyrenes came tantalizingly close to their first win in the football program's history Saturday, but lost to previously winless Robert Morris University 12-7 Saturday afternoon in Chicago.

Both teams are playing their first NAIA football season and Robert Morris had lost its first three games this season. AMU now is 0-3.

Ave Maria took a 7-0 lead at halftime, scoring in the second quarter on a three-yard touchdown run by Dipo Kalawole.

A tough Robert Morris defense kept AMU off the board for the second quarter, but the Gyrenes led until the final minutes of the game until Robert Morris, down 7-6, scored with 1:02 remaining in the game on a 40-yard touchdown pass.
