The Immokalee Pregnancy Center now has a home of its own.

The center, which offers pro-life counseling to pregnant women, operated for its first few years in rented rooms at an Immokalee community center, but now has a bright, freshly-painted location at 1011 W. Main St. in Immokalee.

The offices were formerly occupied by Dr. Milanio Villarosa, a pediatrician who donated countless hours treating children in Immokalee for 20 years.

A number of services are offered free of charge in both English and Spanish at the Immokalee Pregnancy Center including pregnancy testing, counseling, adoption support and an "earn while you learn" program where women attend classes on mothering and receive "mommy money" coupons that can be redeemed for baby clothes and other baby needs.

A major source of financial support for the center is its annual banquet which will be held this year on Feb. 24 at St. carney1John the Evangelist Church in North Naples. The banquet's keynote speaker is Shawn Carney,(left) a young pro-life leader who was a co-founder of the "40 Days for Life" event which has expanded in last few years to 240 cities in all 50 American states, four Canadian Provinces, England, Ireland, Brazil, Peru, Australia, and New Zealand.

People wishing to attend the banquet are asked to register, and a form is available here. There is no pre-determined charge but anyone attending is asked to consider donating to the organization.
