Johnny Bench Scholarship Fund Established at AMU

bench1aAve Maria University has announced the establishment of the $20,000 Johnny Bench Scholarship Program to help students attend the university.

The hall of fame catcher has headlined the university's annual golf scholarship fundraiser for the last two years, and will do so again at this year's event Dec. 2-3. Right, Mr. Bench teeing off at the golf event two years ago.

"I have been involved in providing scholarships to deserving high school and college students in Cincinnati since 1983," Mr. Bench said, adding that "as I spend more time in the Naples community, it is heartwarming to be able to make the same impact through the Johnny Bench Scholarship Fund at Ave Maria University."

The AMU charity golf event has has raised nearly $740,000 and provided scholarships to 200 students since its inception. It is a two-day event beginning with a dinner the evening of Dec. 2 at the Country Club of Naples with the golf tournament the following day at the Panther Run Golf Course at Ave Maria.
