Peggy Stinnet and her husband, Scott, have been friends with their Ave Maria neighbors John and Patti DeFelice since both families moved to the town's Del Webb community several years ago. But what they didn't know, until some recent sleuthing by Peggy, is that their families are related.
Peggy first thought it was a coincidence when her daughter-in-law in Michigan sent some pictures from a DeFelice family reunion last summer held in Youngstown, OH. But she asked her friend John DeFelice if he thought there might be a relation, and it turned out that her daughter-in-law was the granddaughter of John's first cousin, Charlie Testa.
John, 70, and Charlie, 79, hadn't seen each other in 60 years but were reunited Sunday in Ave Maria. At right, the two cousins with their wives. Left to right: Patti DeFelice, John DeFelice, Charlie Testa, Norma Testa.
