The Ave Maria University sports season kicks off Friday as three of the school's intramural teams see action. That will bring to a total of nine the intramural teams competing in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics this year, an increase of three since last year. Plus, several club sports have been added.

On Friday, the teams for women's volleyball, women's soccer, and men's soccer will play home games against teams from the College of the Bahamas. The volleyball game is at 2 p.m. in the Donahue Academy gym.  The women's soccer team plays at 4 p.m. and the men play at 6 p.m. The men's soccer team also plays Saturday at 4 p.m. against Johnson & Wales University. Residents are welcome to all contests.

Three additional intramural sports this year at AMU include women's softball, women's golf and men's baseball. These join the programs that were in place last year that included men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball and men's golf.

In addition, there are club sports in Rugby, swimming and tennis.

All AMU home games are listed in the Ave Herald calendar. The AMU Athletics site has schedules, rosters, results and other information.
