Donahue Moves on to Football Playoffs after Season's First Loss

The Donahue Academy Shamrocks gave league-leading Clearwater Christian their toughest fight of the season, but lost 68-36 in a battle of undefeated football teams at North Park in Ave Maria.

The 36 points put up by the Shamrocks was the most any team scored against Clearwater all season -- more points, in fact, than the total scored against Clearwater this year.

Both teams were undefeated coming into Friday night's game and may see each other again in the finals of the playoffs that start next week. Donahue, now 9-1 on the season, opens the playoffs at home Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m., against Academy at the Lakes, a team they defeated 42-24 in the third game of the season.

"I was really proud of the effort displayed tonight by our football team," Coach Rich Scanlon said after the game. "Clearwater is extremely fast, quick and talented. They have speed that we can't duplicate in practice, making it difficult to prepare. However, our guys never gave up."

Mark Cheffers had 223 yards receiving and caught three touchdown passes from Elias Allan, who threw for 311 yards on the night, completing 16 of 30 passes and was intercepted twice. The quarterback also rushed for one touchdown, as did JP Klucik.
