Another long-awaited project in Ave Maria became a reality Saturday when the first phase of a town tennis center officially opened.
The tennis center was one of a number of amenities originally planned for the town that were stalled for many years due to the real estate slowdown that began shortly after Ave Maria opened in the summer of 2007.
Dozens of tennis enthusiasts turned out Saturday for the official opening of the two new courts that are available to all town residents.
Luisa Rosales, manager of the Ave Maria Master Association, is asking residents who use the courts to use sign-up sheets so that she and her staff will get a better idea of when the courts are being used.
