The town of Ave Maria has always had lots of opportunities and venues for myriad activities, but for the most part it has been up to residents themselves to arrange any type of organized activities.
That's changing now that the Ave Maria Master Association has hired the town's first "lifestyle director" – long-time resident Carol DiFlorio.
Mrs. DiFlorio has a background in the hotel and hospitality business in her native Jamaica and is regarded by many residents as a natural choice for the job. She and her husband, Tom, a retired Philadelphia police officer, have been sparkplugs for many town events over the years. Carol has been emcee and Tom has provided music as a DJ for the town's Celebration of Lights, Sunshine State Steak Cook-off and other annual events as well as regular "family fun Fridays" that offer games and entertainment in the town center once a month. Master Association Manager Luisa Rosales said that they received about two dozen applications for the position, including some from out of state, but Mrs. DiFlorio stood out.
"When Carol talked to us, she showed so much passion for the community of Ave Maria," Miss Rosales said."She impressed us as someone who would take the time to listen to residents."
"I'm loving it," said the new lifestyle director. "I am so excited about enriching the lives of people in the community."
The association is conducting a survey of residents about interests in various activities. It can be downloaded by clicking here, and completed surveys should be returned to the Master Association offices in the town center.
