Two AMU students who were arrested in a disturbance in the Ave Maria town center no longer face charges after the State Attorney's office determined there was not enough evidence to proceed.

A spokesperson for the State Attorney's office said that after a review, prosecutors decided not to file formal charges.

The two were arrested on charges of obstructing or resisting law enforcement officers after a large crowd formed in the town center after midnight Saturday, Sept. 27 following what police said was an effort by a deputy to help a girl they described as "extremely impaired." Both students who were arrested maintained they did nothing wrong and that police were heavy handed.

The Collier County Sheriff''s Office media relations office said that the sheriff''s Professional Responsibility Bureau has opened an internal investigation into police behavior during the incident, but did not disclose any details on the nature of complaints.
