Yet another new sign will be going up above the bank branch in Ave Maria when the bank changes its name June 28.
The First National Bank of the Gulf Coast announced that it has received approval from regulators to convert from a nationally chartered bank to a Florida state chartered bank and the change will be reflected in a new name: First Florida Integrity Bank.
The bank's Chairman and CEO, Gary Tice, said in a news release that the change will be "seamless" for customers and is being made because "a Florida state charter enables us to grow more efficiently."
About three-quarters of the banks in Florida have state charters, according to documents posted on the website of the Florida Office of Financial Regulation, which says advantages include lower regulatory assessments and a closer working relationship with regulators that are based locally.
The bank in Ave Maria was originally planned to be operated by Florida Community Bank but the bank failed before it opened the branch. Its sign, however, remained on the building until, after several years, a branch was opened by Shamrock Bank. The name changed again when Shamrock Bank merged with the First National Bank of the Gulf Coast.
