The boys on Ave Maria's Minor B little league team, the Twins, are celebrating a stellar season after winning their league championship Wednesday night with a 1-0 shutout. The team was undefeated for the entire season and did not give up a run in the Golden Gate Little League American League Minor B championships
Pitchers Andrew Graham and Benedict Leung combined to strike out 10 of the 12 batters they faced in the four-inning game. Graham threw 49 pitches and survived 2 and 2/3 innings, while Leung closed with a key strikeout to end the third inning and three straight strikeouts to end the game in the fourth.
The Twins scored the game's only run in the third inning. Johnny Suarez and P.J. Logue drew led off with walks and Suarez scored after a throwing error on the next play, a sacrifice grounder by Joseph Burke.
Head Coach Joe Burke – who also is celebrating the birth of his eighth child who was born during the championship tournament -- thanked his assistant coaches and talented kids with a big smile of gratitude and joy. The Twins finished the season with 11 winds and no losses, including three wins in the championship tournament.
