fitness1-400Bright. Spacious. Attractive. These are some of the words used by Ave Maria residents to describe the new fitness center now open in the La Piazza town center.

The new 5,000-square-foot facility features a variety of fitness equipment, a room for classes and showers for men and women. It also will be open for longer hours -- from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Friday and 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday- Sunday -- although it will be opening at 8:30 a.m. for a few more days while some kinks are worked out with the card entry system, which will not require a change from currently-issued cards.

The fitness center is open to all residents of Ave Maria but Master Association manager Luisa Rosales says that those who rent a residence in town will need to have a copy of their lease on file with the association to be able to use th facility.

The "grand opening" is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, and there will be free water bottles and healthy snacks for those attending.

The space in the Master Association offices that formerly housed the fitness center will be turned into a community room that Ms. Rosales said she hopes will be open by October. Residents will be able to book the room free of charge for community activities and it will also be available for rental for private functions.
