jvbowl-400The Donahue Academy of Ave Maria continued its strong showings in county-wide scholar bowl tournaments this weekend, with the school's junior varsity team placing third out of nine Collier County schools that competed.

The competition, which included many of the brightest 9th and 10th graders in the county, featured two matches with scoring based on the highest scores in both matches. Community School of Naples placed first and Gulf Coast High School was second.

Donahue's team, shown in the picture with their trophies, included Thomas Dauphinais, C.J. Smith, Joan Cheffers, Teresa Vall and Teresa Henderson. The team was coached by Michael Dauphinais and assisted by Gretel Smith and Carmen Henderson.

Another Donahue Catholic student, Thomas Smith, is part of a six-person varsity high school team that was selected to represent Collier County in the Statewide Scholar Bowl Tournament next week in Orlando, Florida.

The other six schools competing in the JV competition were Palmetto Ridge, Golden Gate, Lely, Barron Collier, John Neumann and Seacrest.
