The Donahue Academy Shamrocks lost their first game of the 7-man football season Saturday, dropping a 50-41 decision to Clearwater Academy, last year's state champions, at North Park in Ave Maria.
Lane Lawe led the offense with 12 receptions for 180 yards and 2 TD's. John Longley completed 19 of 31 pass attempts for 217 yards and three touchdowns. He also had one rushing TD. Other touchdowns were scored by Maatt Houde, Albert Matthews, John Hurley and Luke Scheck.
Scheck also led the defense with 9 tackles. John Hurley had 2 QB sacks and Cale Schneider added 6 tackles and 2 QB sacks. Marco Vega had a forced fumble and fumble recovery.
"I am proud of the way our team faced adversity and never gave up," said Coach Rich Scanlon. "We showed great character today and have an opportunity to learn the next two weeks from our mistakes." The Shamrocks' next game is Oct. 12 against Community from Port Charlotte, at 7 p.m. at North Park.
