A new medical office in Ave Maria has announced that it will provide a walk-in clinic in addition to OB/BYN services, internal medicine and pediatrics when it opens Sept. 3 in the town center, next to the Casa de Bambini pre-school.
The walk-in clinic for urgent care services became possible when Ave Maria University agreed participate, said Michael Presley, president of Physicians Managed Services of Southwest Florida.
The new office greatly expands the variety of medical care available in Ave Maria, which currently is served by a dental office, a dermatologist who has office hours on Friday, and a chiropractor.
Physicians Managed Services will offer AMU students and faculty, as well as town residents, the ability to enroll in a plan that provides unlimited visits for urgent care services at a flat rate, Mr. Presley said. The cost for AMU students is $50 per semester, and the same fee would apply to students in middle school and high school. All other residents of the town will be able to enroll for a flat fee of $100 a year, Mr. Presley said. The flat fee covers visits for common primary care illnesses such as strep throat, bladder infections, pink eye, infections of the ear, nose and throat; common vaccinations; treatment of minor wounds and abrasions as well as skin conditions such as poison ivy, ringworm and acne. The clinic also will offer at extra cost, but a reduced rate for those enrolled in the plan, wellness services such as sports physicals as well as lab tests.
There would be two enrollment periods, Mr. Presley said, each for 30 days beginning with the start of the AMU semesters. Residents can enroll by coming into the office. Those not enrolled will still be able to receive urgent care, Mr. Presley said, but at regular rates for visits.
In addition to the walk-in clinic, where services would normally be provided by a physician's assistant, the office will have doctors available for OB/GYN, internal medicine and pediatrics.
Hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m Beginning Sept. 3, the walk-in clinic will be open Monday-Friday; OB/GYN appointments will be available in the morning Monday, Wednesday and Friday; Internal Medicine doctors will be available in the afternoon Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Pediatrics will be scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday, with specific hours yet to be determined.
Physicians Managed Services accepts most insurance as well as Medicaid and Medicare, Mr. Presley said.
