The construction crews have left, replaced by manufacturing workers at the new Arthrex facility in Ave Maria.
"We're ahead of schedule," said Arthrex Vice President of Manufacturing Andy Owen, as production is gradually shifted from Naples to the 200,000-square-foot state-of-the-art Ave Maria operation.
Currently, 120 people are working in Ave Maria, Mr. Owen said, and that number will gradually increase through the remainder of the year until there are about 400 at year-end.
That won't signal an end to the growth at Ave Maria, however. Mr. Owen said that the plant is planned for a capacity of two shifts of 1,000 people per shift, although he doesn't anticipate reaching those levels for several years.
The company also is continuing with its plans for another 120,000-square-foot building next door, with hopes of breaking ground early next year.
