merc-400The streets of Ave Maria may be showing up later this year in commercials for Mercedes Benz cars.

A film crew from Mercedes Benz used Ave Maria as a backdrop for shooting television commercials Monday morning, shooting as four different Mercedes models were driven around La Piazza, the entrance on Oil Well Rd. and along Ave Maria Blvd.

Ave Maria is one of a number of locations in southwest Florida being used by the crew. The footage will be used a background video for regional Mercedes advertising in North America.

Mercedes Media Supervisor Kyle Smith said Ave Maria was selected both because of how attractive it is, as well as the ability to control traffic while the crew worked. "It's clean, new, fresh, nice and green and lush, and we can control things -- which is how we like it," he said.
