Remaining work includes clean room installation, floor and office finishes, and a final layer of asphalt to the entrances and parking lots, Ms. Gardiner said.

Full production is planned to start in June, she said, and the 190,000-square-foot plant will employ between 250 and 300 full-time workers by year end. Hiring has begun, and job openings are posted on the Arthrex site at http://www.arthrex.com/job-seeker.

The plant is built for for high-volume production of orthopedic implants and surgical implants, with more than a half-million pieces expected to be produced and shipped each month.

When Arthrex broke ground on the plant a year ago, the company said that a second phase would add 120,000 square feet and that by 2016 there would be between 400 and 500 jobs created in Ave Maria.

Plans for an official opening date have not yet been announced.

Arthrex is one of the most successful business start-ups in southwest Florida, growing from a two-person operation in 1991 to a company that now has more than $1 billion in annual revenues from world-wide sales and employs 1,200 people in the Naples area.
