Tom Monaghan is suing the federal government to block a planned mandate that all employer-provided health insurance provide free contraceptives and other services that "involve gravely immoral practices, specifically the intentional destruction of human life."
The suit filed in U.S. District Court in Michigan involves the Domino's Farms office park (pictured) in the Ann Arbor, MI, area and is separate from the legal action initiated earlier this year by Ave Maria University over the same issue.
Domino's Farms is a for-profit company that employs about 50 full-time and part-time employees.
The lawsuit states that the employees currently are covered by a health-care plan from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan that specifically excludes contraception, sterilization and abortion.
Forcing the company to provide insurance that covers such services "runs roughshod over Plaintiff's religious beliefs, and the beliefs of millions of other Americans," the filing says.
