The Ave Maria University Founders Club's annual dinner in Naples will be held Thursday, Dec. 6, at LaPlaya Beach Resort to benefit the Jon Scharfenberger Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Fund awards scholarships to Ave Maria University students exemplifying the values of the AMU graduate who died in a car accident in the fall of 2011 while working for the Students for Life organization.
Jon's mother, Anna, will deliver the keynote speech and other speakers will include AMU founder Tom Monaghan, university President Jim Towey and Barron Collier President Blake Gable.
The dinner begins with an optional Mass at 4:30 p.m. with the reception beginning at 5:30 p.m.
This year, the dinner will have a distinctly Christmas flavor, with the silent auction featuring decorated Christmas trees and baskets of Christmas cheer. Mr. Monaghan is donating books signed by authors to the auction, including a 2nd edition of the Catechism of the Catholic Church signed by Cardinal Schonborn, the editing secretary for the commission that drafted the Catechism. Another silent auction item is a free weekend at LaPlaya.
There will be two dinner choices, one an herb-crusted salmon and New York strip steak with a red wine demiglasse, and the other a risotto cakes with spinach, tomatoes and truffle oil drizzle. Entertainment will be provided by the Ave Maria Glee Club, directed by Martin Doman.
Tickets are $100 per person and can be ordered up to Monday, Nov. 26, online at the AMU website by clicking here, or by calling or emailing Antionette Bosch at 239-280-2574, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
