The Donahue Academy Shamrocks' playoff run ended on the road Friday night when the team from Ave Maria was beaten 59-24 in the quarter finals by Clearwater Academy, which has been undefeated this season in seven-man football.

"Clearwater had too much speed and quickness for us," said Coach Rich Scanlon. "That was the best team that we faced this year."

Donahue hung in for the first two quarters, trailing 27-18 at halftime, but, turnovers and penalties were costly in the second half as the Shamrocks fell further behind.

Joe Chmielowski led the defense with seven tackles and a sack. Nathan Gay, Lane Lawe, Daniel Nagy and Matt Houde each scored a touchdown. Quarterback John Hurley completed eight of 15 passes for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns, but was intercepted twice.

"I am really proud of how our team kept fighting until the last play," Coach Scanlon said. "This senior class is a special group of guys who have the potential to do great things in life. After continually overcoming adversity all year it was fitting that they continued to fight and persevere until the final play. I will miss this senior class."
