Donahue Win Secures Football Playoff Berth

The Donahue Academy Shamrocks are going to the post-season for the second consecutive year.

The Shamrocks defeated Cape Coral Christian 46-6 in North Fort Myers on Friday night. The win guarantees Donahue a third seed in the seven-man football playoffs beginning the first Friday in November.

Matt Houde led the Shamrocks scoring with 2 receiving touchdowns and a kickoff return for a TD. He had 89 receiving yards on three receptions and added 16 yards rushing on 4 attemts. Quarterback John Hurley racked up a total of 164 passing yards, with two touchdown passes and one interception. Hurley also had 42 yards rushing on six carries. Nathan Gay and Lane Lawe added 1 yard TD runs and Dominic Allan rounded out the scoring with a 3 yard TD.

The defense was led by Nathan Gay who had 6 tackles and 2 QB sacks. Joe Chmielowski (3 tackles), John Guerra (4 tackles) and Luke Scheck (4 tackles) each added a QB sack. Max Krepf had a fumble recovery and Daniel Nagy had an interception.

Donahue plays its last regular season game at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Ft. Pierce against Golden Rule Academy.  The Shamrocks and all other teams remaining in their conference were also awarded a win by forfeit last week when Island Christian dropped its football program. Donahue's record now is 7-2 for the season.
