It was a night to remember for seven Donahue Academy seniors playing in their final home 7-man football game at North Park in Ave Maria Saturday night.

The Donahue Shamrocks beat Westwood Christian from Miami 56-19 in a game where the seven seniors on the team were honored at halftime. Above, left to right, seniors Daniel Nagy (3), Ronan Lupien (21), John Guerra (24), Peter Scheck (44), Max Krepf (77), Nathan Gay (63) and Joe Towey (83), with family members who joined them on the field at halftime.

Many of those seniors had major contributions in the Donahue win. John Guerra led the defense with four tackles, Nathan Gay had two tackles plus a fumble recovery and a sack and Daniel Nagy returned an interception for a touchdown.

Gay also had three touchdowns and three extra-point conversions on five carries for 51 yards while Joe Towey had a 45-yard tochdown and an extra point.

Aside from the seniors, the Shamrocks' Joe Chmielowski had three tackles on defense, John Longley passed for four touchdowns to go 12 of 16 and 180 yards, Matt Houde had two touchdown catches and an extra point and a total of 102 yards receiving, and Lane Lawe had a 25-yard touchdown reception.

"This was a great team effort and I am really proud of the way the offense worked hard this week and rebounded after a tough game last week," said Coach Rich Scanlon, referring to the Shamrocks 25-6 loss last week against Grace Academy. "I am most proud of our seniors and their leadership and character that were displayed well throughout the game."

The win improves the Shamrocks record on the season to 5-2. They don't play again until Oct. 19, when they travel to play Cape Coral Christian.
