A 17-year-old boy is facing charges of sexual battery related to an incident that occurred Friday night, Sept. 14, at the swimming pool (right) in the Ave Maria town center that belongs to the La Piazza condominium association.
Collier County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Tim Pratt said the youth was arrested Thursday as a result of an investigation that began after a 17-year-old girl was found barely conscious and confused in the pool area between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Friday night. The youth, who Lt. Pratt said was charged with sexual battery with special circumstances because of the presence of alcohol, was a senior at the Donahue Academy, according to the police incident report, but lived in Naples. After booking, he was remanded into the custody of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, a Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.
According to the police report, the girl had sent a text message to her father saying, "Help me," which prompted her parents and others to begin searching for her. She was found in the pool area and treated by emergency medical responders. The suspect was found nearby.
The pool area is locked at all times and is for the exclusive use of residents of the condominiums and their guests.
