Around the Neighborhoods - September 2012

Many full-time residents of Ave Maria spent part of the summer escaping the Florida heat up North and overseas, and there's the usual collection of new family additions.

Around Del Webb
By June McCann

Babies! Babies! Two Del Webb families welcomed new grandbabies within a few days of each other: Ame and Carlos Figueroa announced the birth of Cecilia Therese Dreifuerst on August 29. Cecilia is the first child of daughter Cassandra and husband Dustin. Grandma and Grandpa Figueroa travelled to Wasilla, Alaska, for the birth of their 15th grandchild! Ame writes: "Sweet baby girl. Looks just

like her Daddy but has the Figueroa gene for 'good food!'"

Suzanne and John Calce, of Del Webb and Williamsport, PA, are thrilled at the arrival of Michael Andrew Calce –a few weeks early!—on August 31. Son Paul and wife Laura Lee Calce live in Dallas, Texas, provoking immediate plans for a trip to see the new baby!

The Travelling Stinnets! Their summer odyssey included visiting with family and friends, attending a family reunion and some exciting skydiving for Scott and son Kevin! In Fort Wayne, IN, they met up with Jeanne Weber (owner of Ave Maria's fine store, "The Secret Ingredient") and Dad Dick Weber, both of whom reside in Emerson Park when here in Ave Maria. (See photo above right) In the around-stinett2aStinnet's home town of Traverse City, MI, they visited Pat and Ken Kleinrichert and Sidney and Jeff McManus of Del Webb. The Stinnets also attended a family reunion (see photo left) and Scott and Kevin had their air-around-stinettaadventure sky diving in Glen Arbor, MI. (See photo.)

The Travelling Kleinricherts! Germany was the destination of Pat and Ken Kleinrichert's summer excursion. In July they visited the home and home town of Pat's Grandmother and other relatives. In the photos here Pat and Ken go around-kleinrichertaaround-kleinrichert2aasightseeing and show us a picture of the family home. Back in Traverse City, MI, the Kleinricherts hosted a reception for Ave Maria University President Jim Towey for the North Michigan Founders Club. Del Webb residents Sidney and Jeff McManus were among the attendees.

"around-freemancouplesaRestoring Love Week"... Joanne and Mike Hallenbeck and Nancy and Randy Freeman attended Glen Beck's "Restoring Love" event in Dallas, TX, July 28-29, Nancy writes that the week-long event was a "success of epic proportions; thousands descended on Dallas to take part in the movement to around-freemantebowarestore freedom, honor and love." Pictured here are Nancy, Randy, Mike and Joanne. And Nancy—doing "THE TEBOW!"

Nancy Freeman continued her travels—to Orlando recently-- to visit with Bishop Sabino Odoki who is the Bishop of the Diocese of Arua, Uganda. The Bishop was appointed by the Holy Father Benedict XVI in 2010. The Bishop visits the around-freemanbishopaOrlando area once a year and hopes to visit Ave Maria next year when he comes again. She also was in Tampa with a pro-life contingent that went to Tampa during the Republican National Convention.

Nancy also organized a talk in Ave Maria on an event in U.S. history known as "Operation Pedro Pan," in which more than 14 thousand children were sent by their parents from Cuba to the United States in the years immediately following the Cuban revolution. The talk was attended by more than 60 people, including many of those children, now grown up, who live in southwest Florida. Pictured are some of those now-grown children with the presenter at the talk, Victor Andres Triay, who is an expert on what until recently pedro1was a relatively unknown event in the history of the years from 1960-1962 -- between the time of the Communist takeover of Cuba til the missile crisis.
