John Longley tossed four touchdown passes in his debut as the Donahue Academy quarterback as the Shamrocks beat Nicaea Academy 33-18 at North Park in Ave Maria Saturday night in the opening game of the seven-man football season for both teams. (Right, Longley running for the goal line.)
Matt Houde scored two touchdowns, and Coach Rich Scanlon also noted how Peter Scheck anchored the team at center and Joe Chiemelowski led a tough Shamrocks defense.
"This was a great team effort," Coach Scanlon said. "Everyone played and contributed at their position. Although we have much to work on, it is nice being able to start the season this way."
The next game for the Shamrocks is in Port Charlotte against Community Christian Saturday, Aug. 25. They play next at home Saturday, Sept. 1, against Canterbury -- last season's state champions -- at North Park at 7 p.m.
