Assessments Flat, Irrigation Fees Higher in AMSCD Budget Proposals

The Ave Maria Stewardship Community District is holding the line on homeowners' assessments for another year. The special assessments have not increased for three years, and are unchanged in the proposed budget for the coming fiscal year beginning in October.

The full budget proposal is one of the topics up for discussion at the meeting Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 9 a.m. in the offices of the Ave Maria Master Association in the town center.

Although the homeowners' assessments are unchanged, the district board will consider a request for an increase of about three percent in the fees for irrigation water which were last raised in 2010. Ave Maria University is also asking for approval to use irrigation water for a student club that wants to begin farming an area of land northwest of the current campus, near the site of the temporary fire/EMS facility.

The meeting also will be advised of procedure for a landowners meeting in November, which will hold an election for three seats on the board which are expiring – those of Chairman Tom Peek, Liesa Priddy and Doug Baird.

AMSCD meetings are open to the public, and anyone attending also can propose items for discussion that are not on the agenda. Board member Liesa Priddy also serves as a commissioner of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which is responsible for action regarding the bear who has been roaming Ave Maria, and the subject could be raised at the meeting.
