The Oil Well Rd. project is almost finished, at least for the time being.
Crews finished the major widening work within the last week, and four-lane segments are now open from Immokalee Rd. to Everglades Blvd., and from Oil Well Grade Rd. to Ave Maria Blvd.
All that remains in the near future is a final layer of asphalt on the two-lane section between Oil Well Grade Rd. and Everglades Blvd., the county's Growth Management Division said in a news release. That section, which now has wider lanes and new shoulders, should be finished in four to six weeks, the county said.
Speed limits when the current construction project ends will be 45 mph in the section from Immokalee Road to Everglades Boulevard, where three schools and a few subdivisions are located, 55 mph in the middle segment which is mainly agricultural area and 50 mph in the segment from Oil Well Grade Road to Ave Maria Blvd.
Once the current project is completed, work on Oil Well Rd. will be finished for the foreseeable future. The county says in its news release that further construction work to add additional travel lanes to the middle segment from Everglades Boulevard to Oil Well Grade Rd. "will be placed in the construction work program as funding availability permits."
