Fortnight for Freedom Begins This Week

The Quasi-Parish of Ave Maria has scheduled a series of devotions as well as homilies and a talk that focus on religious freedom as part of the Fortnight for Freedom, a special two-week period of prayer, fasting, catechesis and public action organized by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, to be held nationwide, extending from June 21 through Independence Day, July 4.

Although this effort follows close on the heels of the many religious freedom rallies held so far this June, which were organized by various Catholic bishops specifically to protest the HHS mandate, the Fortnight for Freedom web site indicates that a number of social issues and their impact on religious freedom underlie the activities being held over these fourteen days.

Activities in Ave Maria will include a Benediction and a Holy Hour, as well as a Novena for Religious Freedom sponsored by The Respect Life Committee.

The schedule for activities to date is:
   - Thursday, June 21, 7 P.M. the Oratory: Fortnight for Freedom events open with a Holy Hour with Benediction.
   - Sunday, June 24, 7 P.M., Donahue Academy: Talk by Dr. Stephen Matuzak on Religious Freedom and Catholic teaching.
   -Daily, June 25-July 3, 7 P.M., the Oratory: Novena begins – novena prayer and other prayers. (On Mondays, these prayers will follow recitation of the weekly parish rosary.)
   - Tuesday, July 3, 7 P.M., Oratory: Novena ends with Holy Hour.

Additional activities are planned to be included and will be announced in The Ave Herald when scheduled.
