A summer swim team in Ave Maria is offering swimmers between the ages of 6-19 a chance to practice, improve skills and compete against teams from other communities.
This year, Ave Maria is part of a new conference called the Paradise Coast Swim Conference, made up of smaller teams.
The team practices three times a week -- at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday -- at the water park and membership is open to any swimmer aged 6-19 who can swim the 25-meter length of the pool without difficulty. The swimmers are coached by Annaelle Scanlan, Joe Guernsey and Daniel Scanlan, all of whom have competitive swimming experience.
There's a fee of $50 per child for the entire summer, which covers the cost of a lifeguard and other expenses. Parents can sign children up at any practice.
At least three meets are planned so far, with the first one being in Naples June 27.
