175 Will Receive AMU Degrees Saturday

Ave Maria University will award diplomas to 175 students -- 138 undergraduate and 37 graduate degrees -- at commencement exercises at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Golisano Field House.

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush  will address the 2012 graduating class. He and William E. Simon, Jr.,
co-chairman of William E. Simon & Sons, LLC, a global merchant bank, will receive honorary doctorate degrees from the university.

This will be the first commencement for university President Jim Towey who will preside at the ceremonies along with the school's founder and chancellor, Tom Monaghan.

The Baccalaureate Mass will be Friday, May 4, at 5 p.m. in the Ave Maria Oratory with Fr. Matthew Lamb, professor of theology and the chair of the Theology Department, as the principal celebrant.

In addition to the graduation ceremony in Florida, another 59 graduates of AMU's Latin American campus in San Marcos, Nicaragua, will be awarded degres there May 19.
