Irish Festival, Art Show and Bike Race on Tap for Busy Saturday

 The streets of Ave Maria will be filled with music, chalk and bikes Saturday when a number of events take place simultaneously. Above, Sydney McManus with some of the art that will be for sale to benefit the Casa de Bambini pre-school, which also will be holding a chalk art competition.

AMU Adds Majors in Education and Accounting

Ave Maria University has added undergraduate majors in Education and Accounting, both of which will be offered beginning with the fall semester, the university said in a news release. AMU is launching a nationwide search for a chair of its Education program.

Blake Gable Upbeat about Future in Talk to Ave Maria Residents

 Ave Maria is "off to the best sales year since the first year we opened," Barron Collier President Blake Gable told a gathering of residents Thursday evening during a wide-ranging discussion in which he also said that the company is looking seriously at proposals for an assisted living center and an apartment development among other future projects.

Honoring Pope Benedict by Feeding the Poor

 Dozens of Ave Maria University students spent the final three hours of the papacy of Pope Benedict XVI making hundreds of lunches for needy people in Immokalee. The service project was one of a number of activities on the campus honoring the former pontiff.
