For two days this week, the town of Ave Maria will be filled with music not typically heard in south Florida -- or many other places, for that matter.

One of the world's few traveling carillons (right) will be stopping in the town to give concerts and musical performances showcasing the sound of its 48 bronze bells Wednesday and Thursday as part of the university's events celebrating the Feast of the Annunciation March 25.

The 13-ton Mobile Millenium carillon, with bells cast in the Netherlands in 1991 and 1992, is touring the United States. Wylie Crawford, who has been the carilloneur at the University of Chicago since 1984, will give a demonstration of how the carillon works and play a sampling of compositions on Wednesday, March 24 at 3 p.m. .(At left, the instrument's keyboard)  In addition, at 7 p.m. Wednesday and at 3 p.m. Thursday, he will peform a concert, Cast in Bronze. All the carillon events at Ave Maria University are open to the public at no charge.
