Irish music, fun and games will be featured Saturday, March 6, at the "Touch of the Irish" event in the Ave Maria town center. Things get under way at 11 a.m. There is music from the West Galway Irish band along with traditional food and drink, games and activities for all ages. Two experts in Irish family history will be giving a one-day workshop and seminar on researching Scots-Irish ancestry Tuesday at Ave Maria University. The two, Fintan Mullan and Brian Trainor, are from the Ulster Historical Foundation, one of the leading organizations providing genealogical research and resources.

The women's team posted the first winning season of any Ave Maria University sports team. Coach Bob Batson was named the Sun Conference Coach of the Year and Emily Huber (right) was picked Freshman of the Year.  The poems ranged from modern to classics, and people recited from computers, iPhones, memory and old-fashioned paper at a fun poetry reading Friday night at The Bean of Ave Maria. More than 30 people attended and readers included university and high school students, town residents, clergy, and university professors and administrators. The Ave Maria Stewardship Community District at its meeting Tuesday will consider the creation of a design review board that would have authority to approve plans for all non-residential construction in the town. The recommendation is one of several items on the agenda for the AMSCD meeting at 9 a.m. March 2.

 The Dominican Sisters of Mary who appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show earlier this month presented Oprah with a rosary and taught the TV star how to pray it, Sr. Teresa Benedicta told a packed gathering at The Bean of Ave Maria Tuesday night.
