Ave Maria University President Jim Towey says in a video released by the university that AMU will not comply with the madate by the federal department of health and human services that requires health insurance plans of Catholic universities to cover free contraceptives.

 County Commissioner Jim Coletta met more than 100 Ave Maria residents at an ice cream social Saturday outside The Bean. He answered questions about Arthrex, Oil Well Rd. and the future of Eastern Collier County. "He's a great friend of Ave Maria," said Chelsea Allan (above, with her baby Mary Grace). Mr. Coletta is running for re-election this year.

 The new Tom Monaghan Catholic Leaders Scholarship Fund is approaching $1.5 million in donations in its first year, Ave Maria University President Jim Towey announced at a fundraising dinner attended by more than 400 people Wednesday night. Above, Mr. Monaghan and Mr. Towey at the dinner.
