Gabe Allan scored three touchdowns as the Donahue Academy Shamrocks beat the Oasis Charter High School Sharks of Ft. Myers 27-13 in the school's sixman football home opener at North Park.

dfb2The speedy back scored first on the first of three TD tosses by quarterback Nick Jaroma, after the Shamrocks' Max Krepf forced a fumble on the Sharks' first posession of the game. At right Krepf, #57, knocking the ball loose.

Joe Guernsey scored the other Donahue touchdown on a pass reception.

The Shamrocks' Michael John Dauphinais, who started at middle linebacker, suffered from heat exhaustion after the game and was taken to North Collier Hospital in Naples, where he remained under observation on Sunday afternoon. "His health is first and foremost on our minds," Coach Rich Scanlon said Sunday. [UPDATE Sept 7: Michael John was discharged in good health by North Collier Hospital where he had been under observation since shortly after the game.]

The Shamrocks are now 2-0 on the season and play their next game at home Saturday, Sept. 11, against a tough squad from Cape Coral Christian.

"Next week's game will most likely be the most difficult on our schedule," Coach Scanlon said. "Cape Coral Christian has a well coached and disciplined team with 4 or 5 outstanding athletes.  They are fast and quick and produce some match-up problems for us.  Our goal is to play mistake free football. We can't afford to take penalties like we did against Oasis."

Coach Scanlon said the team showed improvement from the first game of the season. "We are beginning to play well together as a team," he said. "There was great leadership,  hard work and effort put forth by each individual."
