Around Del Webb...
By June McCann

deldecorating2-150Christmas Holiday Decorating Party...
On Thursday evening Dec. 6 Del Webb members gathered for sweets and eggnog and to show their decorating talents as the gorgeous trees in the Sales Center became glittering fantasies! Work, yes, but done amidst good cheer and very special cookie treats. Shown here are Ken Belden and Mark Petersen and some of the ladies who worked hanging glittering ornaments: From left, Ann Edwards, Maria Belden, Melissa Fagin, Linda Dailey and Fay Petersen. And the winner was---this dazzling tree!

Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame... Our own Del Webb nine-hole champion Jo Makley announced a significant honor for her son-in-law Dave Bunnell--the 2112 Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame has inducted Dave into its ranks of those individuals who have accomplished outstanding records in various areas of golf. Dave Burnell is the co-founder of the Larry Gilbert Foundation and the First Tee Chapter of Lexington, bringing thousands of junior golfers the opportunity to play the game.

More Golf News...On Saturday, December 1, Panther Run Golf Club was the scene of the First Annual Knights of Columbus Golf Outing. Fielding 80 players in an 18-hole scramble format, the event included lots of prizes and a delicious steak dinner served in Del Webb's Resident Lounge in the Sales Center. Many Del Webb members were involved in the planning and execution of the event. (For pictures and more on this event, see the previous Ave Herald coverage.)

More Grandbabies!! 'Tis the season to welcome new babies into the world of Del Webb grandparents! Pat and Ken Kleinrichert announced the birth of Harrison Baker Smith (right), born December 3 and weighing in at 7 lbs. 3 oz. Harrison is the son of Stacy and David Smith. Stacy is the youngest Kleinrichert daughter and Harrison is the 13th grandchild of the Kleinrichert's "baker's dozen."

deljoseph-150The daughters of Ann and Jim Longon have given the Longon family a double dose of joy during this Christmas season: Mary gave birth to Maria Josephine Slaugenhoup on October 1 and Annie gave birth to Joseph Copertino Shreck (left) on October 25. Now the count is six grandchildren for the Longons.

"Thumbs up" to both families!

delfish-200A Fish Story... We here at Del Webb and all over Ave Maria have experienced exciting (?) encounters with wild life which help spice up life here in our little corner of Florida. Following is a gentle story sent to us by Ric Moore on Plymouth Place: "People ask me if there are fish in our 'lagoon.' Now I can answer, 'Definitely, yes!' I am attaching a picture of a tilapia I caught fishing from my backyard. The shoe used to provide perspective measures 11 inches from toe to heel. I am guessing this fish is close to 15 inches and very fat!" Thanks, Ric—judging from the size of the alligator here in the pond, it could be said that your fish is the ultimate survivor!

deleducation-250No Age Limit on Education... Five year residents of Del Webb, Ann and Jim Longon, have done an outstanding job in bringing students to Ave Maria University. Nephew Brian Trymbiski transferred from the University of Pittsburgh to AMU and now Brian's brother Sean and Jim and Ann's niece Bridget and her younger brother Bobby are students here. Not to be outdone by the younger generation, in the Spring Jim will be auditing another course at AMU—"No term paper, no exam, just knowledge for the fun of it," Jim said. For the Knights of Columbus golf outing, Jim flew down from PA and recruited the family to make up the foursome. Seen here, from left, are Sean, Bridget, Bobby and Uncle Jim.
